Atrium School Summer Educator Series Presents:
Summer Writing Fellowship for Educators of Color
Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 17, 2026
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EDT
Unleash your inner author!
The Atrium Summer Writing Fellowship grants racially and ethnically diverse teachers the opportunity to reflect on their lives as educators and write an essay about those experiences. Jenee Uttaro, Assistant Head of School for Program & Equity at Atrium School in Watertown, will lead and support the seven Fellows this July. The group of Fellows will work together and separately in a workshop format, giving and receiving peer input. There is a wonderful culminating event in the Fall at which the essays are read by the authors.
If you have an interest in writing about teaching, we invite you to apply for Atrium’s Summer Writing Fellowship for Educators of Color. Please note that you must have been working in PreK– Grade 12 educational environments for at least two years to be considered for this fellowship. Applicants should be employees of independent or charter schools who work in classrooms (including classroom teachers, teacher assistants, specialists, administrators who also teach, etc.) and plan to return to roles in schools in the Fall. New and veteran teachers are encouraged to apply. We believe writing about the craft of teaching is an important part of the process and experience of teaching. We are excited to encourage all teachers, novice to expert, to reflect and share their work!
Applications are due by June 19, 2026. You will be notified about the status of your application by June 29, 2026.
This is a stipended fellowship: for 2026, you must commit to working with the group each morning during the week of July 13–17, 2026.
The stipend for this project will be $700 for each participant.
